I’m Lauren Whiteley, a prospective mathematics major at Agnes Scott College, class of 2024. Three years ago, I moved from my hometown in Texas to Georgia, just down the road from Agnes. Despite the humidity and mosquitos, I love Decatur, now having been to every bookstore and restaurant within a 10-mile radius. As a student focusing on the STEM disciplines, calculus and code are my bread and butter. I’ve been a math tutor for about 4 years, starting out as a homework helper for my friends and family and later teaching everything from 5th grade to calculus. In high school, I had the opportunity to become a tutor/assistant in a Calculus AB class where I graded papers and helped students with their homework and class practice problems. I enjoyed the experience, and I’m excited to get involved in STEM tutoring programs at Agnes Scott. As a lab technician at Georgia Tech, I analyze data using programming languages such as Python and Bash. After graduating, I plan on utilizing my math and computer science skills to pursue a career in data science. When I’m not knee-deep in integration problems or RNA-sequences, I like to read YA fantasy novels and watch Big Bang Theory.
